New market-ready reverse powered G.fast 212MHz and cDTA solutions
allow service providers to expand symmetric Gigabit services over a
single pair
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 2017--
ADTRAN®,
Inc., (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation open
networking solutions, today announced that it will be conducting the
first public demonstration of the ITU-T’s two most recent G.fast
advancements, 212MHz and coordinated dynamic time allocation (cDTA), at
the G.fast
Summit 2017 in Paris, France, May 9-11, 2017. These advances enable
the delivery of symmetric Gigabit services over a single copper pair,
mitigating the need to bond multiple pairs of copper. For the first
time, service providers can use a single technology to easily extend
business-class Gigabit speeds over existing wiring.
“Advancements in consumer electronics and applications continue to drive
consumer bandwidth demands in the direction of Gigabit broadband. At the
same time, governments around the world are increasingly recognizing
that much of their future competitiveness will come in the form of
digital innovation. They are implementing policies encouraging
investments in telecommunications technologies that enable the vision of
a Gigabit Society, which will underpin their digital competitiveness
strategies,” said Ronan Kelly, CTO EMEA and APAC for ADTRAN. “ADTRAN’s
demonstration of our G.fast Gigabit solutions reinforces our commitment
to bringing solutions that deliver and support the Gigabit Society
vision, but in timescales and cost models that are relevant to the
broader Telecoms Operator community.”
ADTRAN is demonstrating the new 212MHz G.fast standard, which doubles
the usable spectrum. This enables service providers to deliver Gigabit
rates over a single copper pair rivaling most fiber services. ADTRAN is
also extending its reverse power feature set to this advanced solution
once again mitigating the time and cost to source local power. Together,
they allow service providers to accelerate their Gigabit and ultra-fast
broadband service deployments by approximately 12 to 18 months and up to
one third the cost per subscriber. This will provide telcos with a
distinct competitive advantage over cable providers that are deploying
DOCSIS 3.1, where the symmetric Gigabit service capabilities of 212MHz
G.fast cDTA remains out of reach of DOCSIS3.1—today and for the
foreseeable future.
ADTRAN, which first demonstrated DTA over coax at last year’s G.fast
Summit, is demonstrating the second phase of DTA. cDTA, like earlier DTA
function, improves G.fast upstream performance by four to five times by
dynamically balancing upstream and downstream performance to match
residential traffic patterns in real-time. Unlike the earlier DTA
feature, cDTA expands the applicability of this QoE-boosting feature to
existing phone wiring, which covers nearly all residential and
commercial premises. These two most recent G.fast advancements, 212MHz
and cDTA, extract even greater overall performance from an operator’s
existing assets, and in a significant portion of scenarios, eliminates
the need for full FTTH for the coming decade. For the first time, G.fast
provides a technology that service providers can leverage to more
rapidly and more cost-effectively extend symmetric Gigabit fiber
services and expand ultra-fast broadband service to the wider market.
Designed and built to form an integral part of the ADTRAN
MOSAIC Open Software
Defined Access platform, operators embracing these solutions today
can take comfort from the knowledge that the G.fast access elements in
their network are ready to adopt the SDN paradigm shift just as soon as
the operators’ IT departments are ready.
The G.fast Summit 2017 is the world’s premier event focused on
deployments, experimentations, standardization processes and equipment
provider offerings within the G.fast market. ADTRAN’s demonstration will
take place at Booth #2 on May 9-11, 2017. As the platinum sponsor of the
event, ADTRAN representatives will also be presenting on key
developments and innovations in G.fast.
