Gigabit service enables Jackson, Tenn. to compete in global job
market, stimulate economic development and attract new industries to the
area
HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 11, 2014--
ADTRAN®,
Inc. (NASDAQ:ADTN), a leading provider of next-generation networking
solutions, today announced as part of its Enabling Communities,
Connecting Lives program, that Jackson Energy Authority (JEA) has
selected ADTRAN’s advanced Gigabit service architecture to deliver
next-generation broadband across one of the nation’s largest public
Fiber-to-the-Home (FTTH) networks.
With more than 18,000 endpoints in its network, JEA is making Gigabit
service available to a greater number of residential and business
customers than any of the broadband, cable and competitive providers in
Jackson, Tenn. JEA’s Gigabit service offering will play a crucial role
in stimulating economic development and transforming the Jackson
community by attracting new businesses and industries that have a strong
need for high-speed fiber broadband infrastructure.
An early adopter of fiber technology, JEA first deployed its FTTH
network over a decade ago, when competitors were still laying down
copper. While west Tennessee has historically been an agricultural
region, JEA understood early on that deploying fiber could support the
community’s evolution into a globally connected commercial center. The
area has already seen economic and business growth from a cross section
of industries, with Gigabit services looking to benefit several specific
market segments including manufacturing, education, healthcare, retail
and residential services.
“Gigabit service is the natural extension of our fiber network, taking
our network and customers to new levels of connectivity and growth,”
said Ben Lovins, senior vice president, telecom for Jackson Energy
Authority. “ADTRAN’s Gigabit broadband portfolio provided
the flexibility, scalability and performance we needed to deploy our
Gigabit services with confidence. We know ADTRAN understands the
challenges we face as we look to build out our network for
next-generation broadband and will help us to achieve our deployment
goals.”
“JEA has proven time and again just how innovative and knowledgeable
they are in terms of understanding their customer needs and making sure
they’re addressed. By looking ahead, they’re able to anticipate what
technology will be demanded and take the necessary steps to ensure they
can meet that demand,” said Mitch Fleming, regional vice president,
sales, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. “ADTRAN knows how important it
is for service providers, like JEA, to evolve, change and grow their
business in a way that will enable them to accelerate Gigabit service
delivery and provide their communities with new economic opportunities.”
ADTRAN’s Enabling
Communities, Connecting Lives program showcases how innovative
technologies are being used in cities, towns and communities across the
country to support economic growth and urban development. These
communities are using ADTRAN’s world-class Gigabit broadband, Wi-Fi and
Cloud service offerings to re-invigorate downtown business and
residential districts, connect classrooms with other learning centers
around the world, and help attract new companies seeking to relocate out
of crowded urban centers.
